AXWELL - 34 year old DJ rated the worlds 12th top dog part of 'Swedish House Mafia' he has been producing non stop since the last decade and his repertoir of work is really amazing. You MUST check out his other performances. This is all of 2 hours of what he came in Goa to do and did to the thousands of people there. You have to SEE this to BELIEVE it. Mind-blowing.

Style of Eye - This Swedish dude is making a lot of waves with his music. This short but crisp set says a lot about how the shape of international EDM is changing, one beat at a time. VERY TIGHT!

SKAZI - Skazi, unlike what people think is not ONE person but an Israeli psychedelic trance DUO comprising Asher Swissa and Assaf B-Bass. Skazi in India, has a pretty thick following of listeners. This is a 48 minute video of their performance. The sheer power and STRENGTH of their beats is enough to blow you away at any of their live gigs. MADNESS.

So these are 3 reasons why you SHOULD have been there at the Sunburn Goa Festival 2011.

2011's Top 10 Song Countdown; As Far As CBA Is Concerned.

Because 365 days makes up a year. An important unit in anyone's life. Its also equally important to keep a tab of and an official record regarding the things that mattered in your life. Songs are a very important part of my life. I cannot get up from my bed till I hear the right song. I cannot jump into the shower till I hear the right song. I cannot put my shoes on till I hear the right song. And I definitely cannot push myself out of the house to do anything productive till I have heard the right song to kick start me off. So botton line. Songs are VERY VERY important to my daily (and nightly) life.

As I also hate long blogs I shall now immediately get right down to the point of this blogpost.

Here are my MOST LOVED songs of the year 2011.
...and YES - this most definately IS a countdown!!!! ;-)

10. 'Rolling In The Deep' - Adele

I dont know weather it was the fact the sound track of the song was used in the Apple iPhone4S commercial of just the fact that this song was so simple, yet an example of how something straightforward can be so magical. I am not a woman and I dont relate to the lyrics much, but its the sound, dominated primarily by the church like harmonies in the background which hit my sweet spot and made me fall in love with woman, whose name initially only reminded me of the computer manufacturer - 'A Dell'.

9. 'Firework' - Katy Perry

Katy Perry splashed onto the scene with her seductive sexy image of the typical white man's fantasy of being the perfect incestuous package aka 'Teenage Dream', made a lot of money and some pretty ok music for the charts in the process. Her songs were alright, specially the one she did with Snoop Doggy Dogg titled 'California Gurls' but this was really the one that took the cake for me. It talks of hope, never giving up, not being afraid and having the courage to be whoever you are from within, despite any and every criticism. It vibed very well with me as those are the things I represent and the whole concept of CBA really stands for.

8. 'Fuck You' - Cee Lo Green

For very very obvious reasons. The ruthless honesty of this song is something that strikes a chord with me. I love how direct and un compromising Cee Lo Green is with his emotions and his words. Some might brush off straightforwardness as tactless, but I have a lot of respect for it. People who mince their words get no where in life. This is probably the reason why it won the Best Urban Performance of the Year, Grammies 2011.

7. 'On The Floor' - Jennifer Lopez

A woman who was known to have the most perfect ass and have dated some of the strangest men in the industry had twins and then decided to write a record that debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Top 200 charts. This song reassured me that people from the past still had the musical muscle to kick asses of people like Justin Bieber and that hope was still alive. I love Jennifer Lopez and YES I do love her ass, not to mention this song that set clubs afire, even if for a short time. I heard this album on the go, for about a month, post which I deleted it.

6. 'Just A Kiss' - Lady Antebellum

I thought this was some retarded woman who hated Lady Gaga and lacked originality when it came to coming up with names for her musical persona till I later on realized that it was actually a band of 3 people who make some very good country pop rock music. And the classic case of never go with the name of the band and listen to the songs first happened with these people and me. The era of good quality duets came back in my head when I heard this song, and it really gave me a lot of hope, personally, for ideas when it came to stuff me and my girlfriend could possibly sing together. I might actually come out with a release of Dikshita and me - singing this one, our version. Hmm. Lets see.

5. 'Stereo Love' - Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina

Well this was technically a 2009 release but impacted me most in 2011 as that is when I heard it! Another jewel that effortlessly elaborates the fact that the whole world loves simple things. Love the melody and simplicity of this song. If you are a clubber you know what this song did to clubs around India. This is still a highly requested song even on the Radio. Just pure friggin' awesomeness.

4. 'Sexy and I know It' - LMFAO

LMFAO is an abbreviation for 'Laughing My Fucking Ass Off' - ! This is basically two people from LA, California. One 35 year old dude and his 25 year old nephew. Multi talented dudes both of them are dancers, producers, rappers and DJs. The mad sensibilities and crazy humor seems to work for them. Some MAD melodies along with some STRANGE videos that just happen to gel seamlessly. Tons of attitude and a style culture statement that is probably only second to Lady Gaga! I dont know weather to be laughing like a doped out fool or be amazed at the creative genius behind their songs. These guys KICK ASS and definitely Fly like a G6.

3. DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love - Usher feat. Pitbull

Pitbull seems be the first person who has actually realized that success comes from collaborating with multiple artistes and broadening your horizons rather than limiting your scope and comprehension to the abilities of only a few artistes. The wisdom of Pitbull shines brighter than Usher here for me. Usher is someone who had never impacted me I doubt if he ever will be anything more than a sidie for me, but yeah. This was a great track none the less and it did play a LOT, EVERYWHERE!

2. '5 O'Clock' - T-Pain feat. Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen

Everything about this video is super awesome. From the crazy space-age iPhone t-Pain is carrying. The first time I looked at the video the phone was the first thing that caught my attention. But then as you watch the video over and over again, there are many things about the video that actually catch your eye. T-Pain's HAIR look fucking awesome. So does the coat he is wearing and the woodland type boots, which for some reason seem so unnecessary, yet kick ass. But on a serious note, this is one hell of a brilliantly produced song. The nuances, both musical and vocal are so perfectly woven together. Add onto that 3 most awesome vocal textures that could be thrown into a mix, combined with a beautifully shot video and you have a winner!

1. 'Fly Like A G6' - Far East Movement

This is the NUMBER 1 song for the year 2011, as far as CBA is concerned. An individual called 'Isaac Chaudhary' is responsible partly for the song being my #1. But that is just part of the reason. This song is not just one hot bitch of a song, but also became a phrase that I used throughout the year for no good reason. Everyone on FB and in a certain select friend circle of mine was flying like a G6. Jokes apart, this is probably the most impacting song and one hell of a party anthem that was made in the last year, and is well worth the TOP DOG position.

People.

I am a cultured man. Not necessarily a civilized one.

I love culture. All the different colors, flavors and thoughts and feelings that transcend boundaries that supposedly divide us, are of utmost interest to me. Which is why I have researched, sorted, searched and decided upon these 10 short films to be included in my Film Festival.

Well my film festival is not a festival in the actual sense, but an online one. In which anyone wanting to be a part of it, just need to click and view and enjoy some of the greatest pieces of art, this collection has to offer. If you like what you see, you are free to share them with your friends and ensure, art is spread.

A Film Review of 'Synecdoche, New York'.

Once in a while we come across a film that's unlike any other film we have ever seen. It touches us like nothing we ever saw ever did and gets etched on our memories forever and makes a place, nothing till date ever did. 'Synecdoche, New York' is a film that did that for me.

I came across the film through a You Tube video that I was seeing about how 'Everything Is A Remix' and how this was one of the very few films that was not inspired, a rendition, a sequel or fit into any standard template genres and was as close to being the ultimate 'original' film that saw the light of day in contemporary cinema, as none. Intrigued, I decided to give the film a look.

Its a film about how a lot of creative people live their lives. Somewhere in between the real world and the world they feel the need to create. How institutions like marriage, child birth, success and failure, responsibilities dont go very well with a child like mind that inherently only wishes to escape into a dream. How the longing to see the fruition of an idea will sometimes shatter the lives of their families, loved ones and everyone who depends upon them. Such is the burden of a creative soul that gets accurately described in this film.

There is also a beautiful display of 'time' in this film, just like a lot of metaphors are visually articulated so correctly. The phases of our lives that we go through. The film depicts how the ecstasy of love and happiness makes us hope for it to last endlessly and how that desire then becomes the very reason that makes the magic disappear. How all marriages, relationships and phases of our lives are doomed and how eventually the only thing that holds meaning is not the points A or B but the journey between them. The travel. The flight.

I also loved the way human beings, the people, the characters are made to be in this film. People are never what they appear to be. Scratch the surface and the best of us who are made and meant to heal, cure and repair people, are the very ones who love to fool around. Man is an animal who will break all laws to get that sense of power, to know he is unstoppable and to violate every moral rule thats supposed to fool us into believing our society is under control.

Happiness is something we will never stop chasing, even if we do everything possible in our hands to make sure we remain unhappy for the rest of our lives. Irrespective of our relationships and the responsibilities they bring, we will give precedence to things that selfishly matter to us and our personal interest over and above the feelings of and considerations towards others. Pride, Prejudice, Ego, Vanity, Lust, Greed and Excess, are realities true to everyone of us, despite whatever.

The film makes one realize how badly we are controlled by a desire to make sense of what is happening around you. How desperately we seek to understand if things could have been better or was there a part that you forgot to play altogether in the juggernaut of things, that could have made today any better than it is right now. In a microcosmic way, its also a depiction of how we value conveniences in our lives and will waste entire lifetimes waiting on the world to change, just because nothing seems to be going wrong and we broadly believe things will work out fine.

My reviews can sometimes seem incomplete as I feel I dont need to tell you everything you might have wanted to hear from a review. Also I dont write long reviews as I hate reading them myself. This was my experience of watching the film. I would love to know what yours was like.

• I think that there was a time, when ppl suffering from superiority complexes thought following someone back on Twitter was beneath them.

• Now if someone doesn't follow you back, it means they probably don't use TweetDeck or thr accounts are inactive or they are just weird ppl.

• If sum1 unfollows U, its also a sign that they have most probly bn weirded out by yr tweets, dont lk U anymore or have moved on. Simple.

• If sum1 follows U, it just means they R curious 2 know whats on yr mind. Mind U, curiosity isn't the same as respect or even friendship!

• But then loads of ppl follow simply in the anticipation of others following them back, which will sometimes happen & sometimes not happen.

• A lot of ppl will follow U but only a hanfdul of ppl will interact w/ U, respond 2 yr tweets & will sometimes even RT ur stuff.

• The ppl who respond the most, RT yr stuff most, & not just that but the QUALITY of interaction wld B high in only a vry select few.

• THOSE R the ppl who will matter most, b/c it doesn't matter how many followers u have - wht matters is the quality & quantity of response.

• And perspectives are varied. Some believe DISPERSING to a larger base is what matters. I believe the quality of ASSIMILATION matters most.

Airtel Prepaid on BlackBerry STEALS money from customers due to a System Flaw.

There are millions of people in India who use prepaid Airtel connections. I am one. Experience with Airtel has been very tiring and frustrating. Not very much different from how they show it in the movies. Tareeq pe Tareeq, file Ek Desk se Doorse. Ek Sarkaari Afsar ek kahaani sunaata hai toh doosra doosri. LOL.

For those of you who follow this blog or my Tweets know what a HUGE fan I am of technology and in particular mobile technology. Earlier this year I also wrote a full length comprehensive review and round up of the Top 10 SmartPhones of 2010, Apple iPad Review, Notes on JailBreaking, Usage of Twitter and others about happenings at Apple. I LOVE TECH. Its sort of obvious. So when I say a certain company is being unfair to ME, Im wondering what's going down on a National scale with these fools.

BlackBerry is catching up in a BIG way when it comes to Indian consumers. Their BBM messenger and new upgrades in terms of OS, UI and affordability has made them a strong contender when it comes to competing with already established brands like a Nokia. Now Airtel might or might not be a market leader. But the point is that all BlackBerry phones require for users to have a BlackBerry Plan which will be approx 400 or 600 Rs. a month and will give you UNLIMITED (as quotes and sold by Airtel), usage of the internet and email and application usage that use internet facilites. So you can use the browser stream audio use emails etc. and not worry about the costs because you have subscribed to an unlimited plan, right? WRONG.

On the 15th night I was listening to BBC World Service on my BlackBerry phone. And as I am subscribed to their 100 a week plan which is supposed to take care of all the internet usage costs I am not even thinking twice about how much internet is being used or whatever. I wake up in the morning and call this studio Im supposed to land myself at to re confirm timings and to ask weather the client has reached or not. I suddenly hear the voice of some woman on the other end, its a recorded voice thats telling me "This call will last for only 12 seconds, please recharge the balance in your phone". Startled I *123#ed my phone to check the remaining balance, just like the rest of the country does to check the balance on their Airtel phones. And to my surprise I discover that 528 rupees have been deducted from my phone, only 12 paise are remaining, and I am really not sure why.

I called them up and was told AFTER 24 hours of waiting, that the money was deducted for the usage of internet. So then I told them why had it been deducted from my phone as I already had an internet BlackBerry plan activated on my BlackBerry mobile handset. So they said, "Oh, so if thats the case please wait for another 24 hours" after that they called me and told me that they were sorry for the balance that was wrongly deducted. They also said that the Plan which I was using didn't update itself after the period of time was over, so till it doesn't the usage was charged according to the GPRS rates which are unbelievable HIGH. I told them it wasn't my fault if they had faulty systems in place and they accepted and told me the problem would be corrected and that the balance would be put back in a few moments and that I need not worry.

I started feeling weird after a few hours passed and nothing had happened. No balance had been put in my account. So I called them up AGAIN in the evening to find out why the money had not been transferred. Given that I had been chasing these morons since the last few days now, the irritation was evident in the tone of my voice. The woman said that she had a limit of hundred rupees on the amount of money that she can release in one day. She made the transfer and told me Id have to wait another 24 hours for the rest of the balance to be transferred.

Today morning I wake up and realize every 40 minutes or so Im getting a "30 paise has been deducted". The problem which was causing money to be WRONGLY deducted from my phone had STILL not been addressed, despite Airtel knowing about the problem for 4 days. I called up Customer Care - ONCE AGAIN and told a *new* customer care person EVERYTHING all over again. He told me that Ill have to wait another 3 days before they would be able to make any transaction to my account as the software didnt allow for any transaction to take place for 3 days after one had already taken place.

Basically. Airtel steals money from its customers in ways we would never guess. By chance and accident if you DO realize they are doing it, and even if they DO admit that there is a problem, they will slide, slip and dodge ACTUALLY correcting the problem or refunding your money. They will expect you to constantly call them and follow up, knowing very well that most people dont have that kind of time or energy. Considering there are millions of Airtel users and SO MANY people are now a days using BlackBerry phones, Im actually forced to wonder HOW MUCH MONEY they are making OFF people who have yet not realized the flaw in their systems? I was listening to that internet radio and fell asleep and did remember having 500 buck balance which is HOW i got to know of this illegal and wrong cancellation of money. What about those who DONT? What happens to all of that money that is wrongly stolen by Airtel?

I urge you ALL to NEVER use Airtel on you BlackBerries.
This is a very BIG flaw and one rooted at a very basic and integral level.
One that has made me lose faith in the integrity of this company.

Use whatever brand you want to, but please be careful from thieves.

Dear Mark,

A social networking site should HELP me connect with people. Not cause problems in me doing so. I have ignored numerous account deletions. Many a times I have had FB tell me that I dont know the people I do know. Yesterday I was told that I cannot post an update to my own fans on my own page, because my content was reported by some fool as objectionable. This is where I draw the line.

This site is a failure as far as I am concern. There is a HUGE world of applications and websites on the internet, which will do a MUCH better job of connecting me to the people I love, which I will now move to using. Its been a good 3 years of using FB. I think you guys have lost your marbles. And I think its time for me to move on to better things in life.

Goodbye Facebook.

1. Someone who is not following you back: Not following back someone cant be termed as good or bad as its really just a personal choice for someone to follow or to not follow you. But the fact remains that when you realize that you are following someone an that the person is question is not following you, it does feel a little awkward and unimportant. If you think that person should ideally have followed you, but is not, then I guess it might make you feel better to unfollow that person, immediately!

2. Someone who only believes in trash talking and has a Twitter handle like Swagger2DaXtreme:: If you look at Twitter carefully you will realize that there are a lot of Black Americans on it. Now I dont have anything against Black Americans, but a huge majority of them are into something called 'swagger' or how id like to describe it - 'pointless attitude to cover up a huge lack of personality'. A lot of these people have nicknames like 'Young Money' or 'Not Yo Bitch'. You REALLY dont want people like that on your Twitter timeline. They are fun to follow for a little while, but after a while it gives you a headache to read the constant happenings in the life of a 2Pak wannabe.

3. Untill it doesn't involve u 'doing' a celeb I find hot, I don't want to know what ur doing every second of ur life:: A lot of people take the Twitter Question of "What Are You Doing Right Now" a little too seriously. Come On! NO ONE in the world really wants to know what you are up to every other minute of your life. Not even your spouses or possessive girl friends. NO ONE! So if you wanna keep a personal journal of what you do all day long, keep it private, dont broadcast it on Twitter, it will only make people wonder as to what is wrong with you.

4. sum1 who is 2 much in2 retweeting & doesn't have an opinion & uses twttr primarily as a celeb stalking tool.: A lot of people have a furniture like approach to social networking sites. Like the friend that you have had on your FB for over a year but have not heard from, you never get to see any status updates of fresh pictures getting loaded from their end or them commenting or liking anything!!! These people only check in to know what OTHER PEOPLE have been up to and want to be updated about the happenings of everyone else's life, without disclosing ANYTHING about themselves. They sit at one place like furniture and silently observe everything. Some of them are into ReTweeting and then thats ALL that they get into and dont know what else to do, as they really and genuinely have absolutely nothing fresh to bring to the table or to share and contribute, and plan to live their entire lives letting the opinions and ideologies of others over shadow them all throughout their lives.

5. Ppl who cnt stp quoting famous musicians actors philosophers & scientists. Its time2 not jst thnk bt GET OUT of th box.:Adoration is a good thing. But taking it to the point of emulation is just weird. The DJ cant be the composer. The preacher can never be God. The waiter cant be the cook and a Tweeter should not live on RTing alone, but by every thought that comes out of his own original life experiences and feelings. Else following him or her is a grand waste of time.

6. Anyone w/ Online Marketing, Social Media Evangelist or Online Entrepreneur written in their 'Abt Me' section: Most of these people have something called scheduled Tweets activated. Which means that their Twitter s not a genuine experience, but a machine controlled robot which spits out quotes, jokes, funny things interspersed with specifically targeted messages for something they want to sell to you or make you give your time, attention and efforts to. Be very very careful these people as their whole game on Twitter is about treating people like numbers. Their mission on Twitter is not to have a mutually enriching interaction through which personal growth can be facilitated but towards achieving a very specific pre meditated goal of making you take an action they wanted you to.

7. People who don't interact, read other peoples tweets or respond to questions or comments made by their followers. : The way Twitter is built, is to support small groups of friends and people sharing interest areas. Its meaning is lost if you and your followers dont interact and exchange ideas and feelings. Cold people on Twitter are the dead wood holding up the real tree.

8. People who are so full of themselves that they cant see someone else being flamboyant on their time line. Arrogance and Ego take a strange form on social networking sites. In an environment where so much is disclosed and left out into the open for to be accessed possibly by anyone and everyone, its not uncommon to see jealousy and hatred erupt. Also its not hard to tell an egoistic self obsessed personality as they most probably will feel very uncomfortable giving any time attention or importance to opinions other than his or her own. Following such people on Twitter is a waste of time.

9. People Following over 300 people, with less than 10 followers and 0 Tweets posted till date LOL like you need for me to explain why i wrote this. :)

10. People who will only keep 'BLASTING' broadcasts, essentially w/ a 'marketing' or 'promotional' agenda. Its like talking to one of those psycho people who only like hearing the sound of their own voices and dont have any time or patience to listen to other people, leave alone give a shit about anyone else's feelings, thoughts or ideas. One sided communication, is extremely unhealthy.

To HELL With New Social Networks...

...is what most of you would say at the mention of a New Social Network. And why the hell not. Facebook seems like an overgrown overweight turkey stuffed with all kinds of stupid bullshit. And no one seems to be using Twitter.

Also, all these social networks really do is eat up on the time that you should have devoted to living in the REAL WORLD, having REAL LIFE experiences and GETTING OUT THERE to EXPERIENCE the places, people, feelings ON THE ROAD and not in your cozy little bedroom infront of a machine.

Dont know how many of you know about FourSquare, but this is really the future of Social Networking. I say so coz I see so.

This is not some automated message being delivered to you by some APP! Its me, CBA writing this out my own personal experience.

All social networks including FB and Twitter have till date taken us AWAY from people, friends, places and real life situations. In that respect Foursquare is Real Life Pro.

FourSquare is great way of telling people where you were, like a great restaurant, and leaving your expert tips about the place. Your 'friends' when they come to the same place can know what you had to say about it!

Its also a great way of knowing the people around you and the ones who frequent the places YOU frequent. Plus there are loads of features that I am still in the process of discovering.

I think i am very late on the FourSquare bandwagon, but well, things take their own time i suppose. Loads of people have been on FourSquare since over a year now, some even longer. Better late than never.

#10 - HTC EVO 4G

First up, it needs to be mentioned that this device almost did NOT make it to the countdown. Firstly, because in India 3G is still not available in all major markets, by all major players. As a matter of fact 3G is still in the initial stages of its launch, with the country still not over with a previous scandal relating to the distribution of 2G licenses! So its anyone's guess really as to when 4G might really come to the country in its full and unleashed form, but as we had to take into consideration phones that made a change in the year 2010, there was no way in hell that we could have given THIS baby a miss.

This phone is HUGE. One can almost call it a SLATE. Its solid and its really well built. Its got a hefty 4.3inch display. It runs the 1Ghz Snapdragon Processor, has 512MBs of RAM besides a generous helping of 1GB ROM which makes the HTC EVO 4G almost COMPLETELY lag free. Its superb with handling applications, multitasking and opening & closing apps nicely. Its got an 8MP camera and a 1.3MP forward facing camera for video calling apps. Its hard to figure out, why, in a time when brands are talking about 'Retinal' and 'AMOLED' displays, does THIS phone, which otherwise has top of the line hardware, sport a TFT display?

In the US 4G is available in most metros and is fast being spread all over the country. Not too many major drawbacks in this phone if you ask me really. Besides the fact that availability of the 4G network, and of course the phone, is a slight issue in India as of now. This has to be one of the fastest and in fact is the ONLY real 4G mobile handset out there as of now.

#9 - Nokia X6

The Nokia X6 capacitive touch music phone comes in 8 and 16GBs models, the 32GB edition hasn't yet launched in India. The cool part about this phone is that it comes with a year's subscription of FREE LEGAL music downloads from the Nokia OVI music store - Nokia's vast online library of Indian and international songs. The phone supports a 5MP camera with a double LED flash, which although captures good detail in images, leaves a weird blue tint on the photos, which has been a problem with a LOT of Nokia phones in the past as well.

Good build quality is NOT a strength & neither is the design which just seems too dull. The call quality and battery life are remarkable though, with the X6 giving about 2 days running on average to heavy usage. The 8GB edition is priced at 13,500 and the 16GB edition is around 15,500 INR. There is a 32GB which when launched, is expected to be priced in the 18,000 range. The good part about all Nokia phones is that they never disappoint anyone. If you like what you see, i suggest you go right for it right away.

#8 - Sony Erisson Xperia X10

The much awaited release of the Xperia X10 was weirded out a little by the fact that the phone carried Android 1.6. Considering Android 2.3 has arrived anything beneath 2.1 seems silly. Having said that this is one big ass phone. And by big ass i mean REALLY big ass. Its 4 inch screen is the largest to be put on an Android device till date and almost makes the phone look like a retro remote control from the 90s, of sorts!

The phone sports a unique user interface called the UX whose two primary features; 'Media Scape' and Time Scape define its uniqueness. 'Time Scape' aggregates chronologically a view of your phone's entire event history including calls, status updates, music and video played to messages sent. 'Media Scape' is a great way to access photos, audio and video, not just offline but online as well.

The 1Ghz SnapDragon processor could have worked better in a better Android atmosphere. Things get sluggish when you attempt typing in the landscape mode. Accelerometer is rather slow. Videos look fabulous but the 8MP camera doesn't have a flash, and quality of photos cannot be compared with the CyberShot quality. The phone comes with an 8GB MicroSD card, expandable to 16GBs. The battery backup is average and not very impressive. With average to heavy usage the phone gives a talktime of about half a day and needs to be recharged. Current market price is about Rs. 35,000.

#7 - Nokia N8

The N8 is Nokia's much hyped and much awaited N Series 8MP smart phone having a 3.5inch AMOLED screen. Minimalistic designs and excellent metal body which isn't just solid, but well weighted, feels very confident in the palm of your hands. One button on the front bottom helps you switch between home screen and menu as well as jumping from one the other open apps.

This is Nokia's first phone to have the Symbian 3 OS which isn't very different from its predecessor in too many significant ways and seems quiet silly when compared with the multi-faceted-ness of Google's Android and even the Apple's iOS. The 12MP camera with a Xenon flash is really neat though with its 720 HD video capturing capabilities. It must be mentioned though that the phone is sluggish when juggling applications.

The typing experience too is NOT very satisfactory for people into heavy messaging, texting, tweeting and facebooking. The accelerometer is annoyingly slow. I strongly feel that a phone such as THIS deserves at least a 1Ghz processor, instead of the 680Mhz processor it comes with. Even the non removable 1200mAh battery isn't the best option for heavy users such as myself.

Nokia needs to pull up their socks and wake up to see that Symbian 3 just doesnt cut the deal. Till it doesn't, users looking for an evolved phone user experience will continue opting for other brands and models that promise and deliver flexibility and finess, besides just the basic build quality and battery backup that Nokia has always been relied upon for, which now suddenly feels incomplete.

#6 - BlackBerry Torch 9800

Blackberry describes this one as 'familiar but fresh'. And that is EXACTLY what it is! They took everything we were familiar with, namely a slider, a qwerty and a touch phone and slapped them all together in a stylish sexy package, put a fat price tag on it and gave us the BlackBerry Torch 9800 running OS6.

The torch retains the 'essential' BlackBerry experience of personalization, detailed control, efficiency, lightening fast email and excellent overall performance. Its physical keypad is a little more confined than say the Bold 9700, but the good part is that there is absolutely no wrong way to work with this phone - the touch, the physical keypad, whatever works for you is good.

Small things like the notification bar, the all inclusive search & social feeds are very welcome features and most definitely contribute in making for a better UI. The Torch comes loaded with 4GBs of internal as well as an additional 4GBs of external memory in a MicroSD Card, expandable to 32GBs. The 5MP camera shoots decent quality photographs and videos at VGA 24fps. The battery backup is nice but not comparable to other models like the Bold 9700.

This phone is good for people who have been using the BlackBerry for a very long time and equate a bigger, more expensive phone such as this with having more personal power. Personally I like my phones to have more utility and battery backup than anything else. If I were to buy a BlackBerry, for me it would always be the Bold 3, which in a cheaper package of 25,500 packs in a better keyboard, better battery back up and the same OS6 experience, without the touch interface, which to me seems like waste of time specially in a BlackBerry. The Torch is priced around Rs. 33,000.

# 5 - Samsung Galaxy S

I must confess here. The Samsung Galaxy S was a phone I was super excited about for the longest time. At least on paper it seemed like the perfect iPhone Killer and a lot of people seem to agree with this opinion. But there is always a difference between what appears on paper vs that which happens in the real world.

The good first. The 4 inch super AMOLED screen is excellent even in harsh sunlight. The 5MP camera shoots decent photos besides HD video in 720p 30fps. The phone comes in 16Gb model with 2Gbs reserved for Applications alone.

Despite all these great things that the phone supports, the build quality of the phone is light and plasticy which makes you feel very unsure about the durability and strength of the phone. Despite the 1GHz Humming Bird Processor, this phone doesn't do a very great job of multitasking and there are numerous instances of the phone going in the auto switch off mode and showing super lag lethargy doing stuff its supposed to zip through. When you try to read small text the pixels are visible and that gets very irritating too. For medium to heavy usage the phone barely musters up through a day, which is not very impressive.

So while the Samsung Galaxy S is a lot of things that people might desire, it also has its fair share of negatives which make it a phone thats great to check out and have a look at, but perhaps not the best to own or buy.

#4 - iPhone 3Gs

The 3GS might be older phone now, but for a lot of people who really love technology but cannot afford the lastest models of the gadgets they love, the iPhone 3GS is still a hot favorite and will remain to be so for at least some more time to come. Its, as of now, available in the market in the locked 8GB version for an all time low and most affordable price of about 28,000 Rupees.

Tthe iPhone 3GS has a processor with twice the processing power of the iPhone 3G, namely the ARM Cortex A8 processor clocked at 600Mhz, which enables it to do everything at almost double the speed. The finger print resistant screen is really good as well. The phone has a 3MP camera, besides having auto focus, video shooting at 30fps and a cool video editor which allows for some cool trimming options. An integrated compass makes the Google Maps experience more interesting. My personal favorite - the 'Voice Controls' start and stop a lot of apps and make the 3GS - VERY VERY desirable.

If you want to experience the BEST touch phone ever made, by a manufacturer obsessed with quality and class, but you are on a budget and dont want to spend a bomb, then THIS is the PERFECT phone for you. Dont even THINK twice. This one gets a special CBA's Two Thumbs up!

#3 - BlackBerry Bold 3 or the 9780:

If there was a phone that were to best represent the BlackBerry phone platform, in my opinion, it would just HAVE be the Bold! Anyone who is worth their salt knows that till its not at least a Bold, its not really a BlackBerry! Good looking, solidly built, feels like a solid performing work-horse in your hand, very capable and extremely worth each and every penny you will spend on this phone.

It comes packed with 2GB MicroSD card. The 1500mAh Li-ion battery will perform a good one and a half to two days on heavy usage and at least 3 days on light to medium usage. Dressing up the 3 wont ever be a problem, as the BlackBerry Bold has been around for a while and thus has plenty of accessories, covers, cases for you to pick from and personalize this dream machine. Physical form has had no unnecessary changes except for the Chrome on the phone that seems to have taken a darker color, instead of the shiny silver on the 2.

The OS6 adds to the functionality of the phone and is surely an add on from the previous Blod 2. Menus, UI and efficiency has gone up many notches with the OS6. The camera too has gone up from the 3.2 to a speedier 5MP and takes very decent photos as well.

So besides the extra BlackBerry Services costs which are about Rs. 400 a month or Rs. 4800 a year, you are good to go. This is a solid performer. A bull of a phone. My special recommendation for anyone looking to shift to the BlackBerry platform or upgrade from an insufficient 'Curve' or the barbie doll 'Pearl', totally go for it. At 25,500, its surely a phone thats worth your hard earned cash.

#2 - Samsung Nexus S

The HTC Google Nexus One was a phone that was a huge hit internationally in 2010. Samsung Nexus S is it's upgrade by Google, custom tailored to fill the shoes of its Big Daddy and BOY does it do a great job! Congratulations to Samsung on having come up with this device. Quite unexpected, really.

First phone to be shipped with GingerBread aka Android 2.3. At the heart this baby has the very capable 1Ghz Cortex A8 HummingBird Processor also seen previously in the Glaxay S Devices and the Galaxy Tab. 16GBs internal storage and no MicroSD Card slot. Super AMOLED screen which gives darker blacks and more richer colors, better visibility in direct sunlight. 512MB of RAM make it a very hardware capable piece of phone real estate.

Nt too many downsides to this one really. The phone's build quality is average at best and feels plasticy in your hand. The 5MP camera is your average 5MP camera whose photos often time get washed out while using flash in indoor situations. Not good considering how many office colleagues these days buy smart phones ONLY to click photos and post them to Facebook albums. A bad camera can be the deciding factor for a LOT, if not all smart phone buyers these days.

A lot of people consider the iOS to be the best thing around, because of Apple's crazy mad obsession with perfection and control freakishness, having their 'walled garden' approach over the AppStore. Many believe that the 'open door' approach of Android is something that gives THEM more control over the user experience and lets them change that which they don't like.

So really, its a matter of choice for you. I personally would never trust the build quality of Samsung. They are a good brand but not better than Apple. There I said it. But again. Many besides me, on the net and everywhere around the world, believe that the Samsung Nexus S, just might be, the iPhone killer.

#1 - iPhone4:

Let me start off by saying everything you heard about the antenna and reception problems (the antenna-gate problem) has been blown way out of proportion and is false to a large degree - all smart phones have signals dropped if groped in one funny way or the other.

The iPhone 4 really is the best phone in the world as of 2010. Yes it is. If you are in half a mind to buy it, Id like to give you my go ahead right now and let you know that if you buy this phone - you will not have any regrets whatsoever. I say this with confidence, because of many reasons.

Lets begin. The design is great. The glass used on both sides of the iPhone4 is a specially designed glass comparable in strength to sapphire crystal and about 30 times harder than plastic. Meaning it will not crack or shatter or break very easily. The antenna that also comprises the primary structure of the phone is made of extremely high grade stainless steel. The engine of the iPhone is the Apple A4 Processor, this custom designed silicon babe is clocked at a whooping 1GHz. It delivers undeniable efficiency, excellent speed, beautiful precision and absolutely no lag time and gracefully multitasks.

The A4 gobbles up everything in its stride. The battery on the new iPhone 4 is larger and gives upto 40% more talk time than its previous generation phone. I personally know people who are medium to heavy users that get through a good day and a half to two days on a single charge thanks to the 1420mAH Li-oN battery. Really. The 5MP camera captures not just amazingly bright sharp and crisp images but also does 720p HD video at 30fps which you can edit on iMovie and post straight to YouTube from the device.

The retinal display sports a lot of fancy stats proving their point and making this display clearly the most vivid, rich and non-pixelated display ever seen on a smart phone. Not to mention the way this phone handles video, web, streaming, browsing, reading, calls, audio, podcasts and the new video call over Wifi App - 'FaceTime'.

So great looks, great features, great power and performance. Unfortunately its not yet launched in India and thus grey market prices are the only thing you can go by as of now, unless you have someone coming from abroad getting you one. Grey prices as of now are 39,000 for 16GBand about 44,000 for a 32GB. If you can travel to Singapore, the price for the same drops about 10,000 Rupees, which is also the case with all of apples products.

Apple devices are now ubiquitous, and almost unanimously approved of but not without their own share of criticism. The most frequent criticism is, what is now popularly known as "walled garden" approach. It concerns software developers. It can be safely said, software developers have played a major role in the rise of the iDevices.

I remember getting my first iPhone back in 2007, about 2 months after it's release in the US (it was never released in India). It was this unbelievably awesome hardware, with a user interface literally floored the human in you. Yet, so much was missing. You couldn't perform simple tasks which even ordinary phones did. No ringtones, no SMS forwarding, no SMS tones. Hell, you couldn't even arrange your icons on the screen. And apple didn't allow any external software on the device, putting users in a proverbial "jail".

This led to a rise in a community of developers which provided software which enabled users to do all this. They were known as the "jail breakers". They made software using their own code, without any help from apple. Basically, they were opening the filesystem of the iPhone for developers, which apple to this day doesn't allow. This was extremely brilliant, which proved the vast power of apple's device. This wasn't an ordinary operating system, this was a desktop-class os, masterfully taken to a mobile device. It was still the beginning. Or in apple talk it was still, version 1.1.1, and yet developers continued.

A year later when the iPhone was secretly the powerful device on the planet, Apple came out with version 2.0. They opened the AppStore, and supplied developers with their native APIs(application programming interface) to allow developers to make awesome software. Yet this came with a heavy price. Apple had locked the jailbreak community out of their AppStore. Developers had to 'submit' their apps to apple, and would be put up in the store only if approved by apple. This is like saying there will be only one shop for the whole town, no other shops, and we sell only what we like, not what the customer wants. So iPhone users had only the AppStore for softwares... But it's not as bad as it sounds, considering there are 2,50,000 apps availbale on the AppStore today. And most of them are free.

Another thing wrong was that apple provided limited access. Even today, softwares aren't allowed to access the filesystem, aren't allowed to provide many services which softwares on android can. For example, you want to theme your device, well, sorry, you can't. Apple doesn't allow that. You want that additional functions to existing native software: nope. Want widgets running on the lock-screen? Nope. So, this is apple's proverbial "walled garden". Apple gives a lot of fun inside the garden, but you can't go out of it.

There comes jailbreaking. The community now has an AppStore of their own. It's called "Cydia". It allows users to install softwares which access the filesystem, capable of doing absolutely anything. So jail breaking today means having Cydia on your device. There are about 1000 themes available, capable of theming absolutely anything. Even more interestingly, this opened another parallel community. Those of cracked apps. They also have their own AppStore, called Installous. Almost all softwares on the AppStore have their cracked counterparts on installous. And installous is installed via Cydia.

To summarize, AppStore, Cydia and Installous combined on the device, transforms the iDevice into THE most powerful electronic device you can hold in your hand. No Android phone can come close. You have to jailbreak to access Cydia and installous, or youre stuck to the AppStore. It's a kind of cat and mouse game. With every update, apple prevents their devices from being jailbroken. And then the community tries and finds a way around it. It continues and will continue forever.

Technology changes everyday. Old things are forgotten and the ones we thought as new dont remain that way for a very long time. Its sad. But its also exciting at the same time. The freshness quotient of the technology industry is something thats frustrated and excited us all for the longest of time. Its something some of us have learned to accept while others have turned a blind eye towards, choosing to be ignorantly blissful about.

But in the noise of constant mediocre and substandard product launches, Apple has been true to its stalwart reputation of churning out only the best of products, unmatched in their superior innovation, design and usability. The Apple iPad is one such product which has captured the imagination of a tech lovers across all sectors.

"What does it do and why do i need to have it"

This is what a lot of people ask when addressing the iPad.

Functionality wise, what it does is not easy to justify, to the pragmatic minded customer discerning to spend that precious hard earned dollar or rupee. If you are a laptop owner and are wondering if the iPad could replace it, then you are mistaken. People dont buy iPads to replace their laptops. Although it could be argued that a lot of the apps like Google Maps and Email for example are far better on the iPad than they are on a laptop or even a desktop Mac or PC.

For a lot of people the iPad is nothing more than a Large iPhone, without calling capabilities. Some even call it a large iPod Touch. And to a great extend that description isn't all that inaccurate. But it does undermine a lot of things about the iPad, that only those who are in love with it would understand and relate to.

The iPad, is for people who are into reading and writing. Like people who blog, write short stories, are on the go and need something thrifty to function with, dont want something bulky like a laptop and want something that helps then jot down those crazy creative ideas or thoughts that come on the go. People whose work or passion involves words, in the printed and written form, will absolutely adore the iPad. Also people who are into reading a lot will go bonkers post using and experiencing the iPad. A lot of magazines have iPad versions of their websites that work beautifully with the device giving a feel and experience of holding the magazine in your hands which is truly unique and rather uplifting, to say the least.

Plus lets not for a moment forget that the iPad is the iPad because its a touch device. Best in class touch response as a matter of fact. And the fact that its dimensions are as they are, the iPad does a rather accurate job of almost opening an entire web page in the length of the screen, which almost gives you a feel of physically holding the internet in your hands. How many other devices can come close to claiming to do so - think about it, and you have a clear reason as to WHY the iPad has singularly become the most seductive and desired gadget post the iPhone.

If I didn't mention Apps here, I would be a sinner, so I shall briefly talk about some apps that I have used on the iPad which felt amazing and seemed very well designed for the product. The iPod App is amazing. Looks kinda like the iTunes interface. So is the Mail, Safari and Maps Application. IMDB has a great App for Movie lovers which i found really good as well. These are very basic. There are practically hundreds and thousands of Apps that get added onto the App Store and the list of really good apps will keep on changing and evolving as new and more exciting applications keep coming to the forefront and the old useless ones are flushed out. But some you still might want to give a look might be TweetDeck, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Marvel Comics, Tap Tap Radiation, ABC Player, iBooks (which doesn't come bundled but has to be downloaded), Pandora, Kindle for the iPad, Pages and the list goes on. Once you get yours, you will keep checking new ones out regularly. Or just stick to a good hand few ones if you are like me!

One note worthy thing about the iPad is the BATTERY BACK UP! On a WiFi it gives a full 11 hours. On a 3G it positively gives 9.5 to 10 hours which is not bad at all. Depending on when 3G comes in Delhi and other Indian cities and depending on how good or bad it is, it will determine how good or bad the usage will be. But either which ways one needs to remember, that most venues worth their salt, including good schools, colleges and work places have excellent internet networks. So do most malls restaurants and cafes. So its just a matter of time when high quality internet is more widely available.

Either ways you look at it, the iPad is not a necessity. Its not for someone looking to pinch on pennies and get something which is a work horse and replaces existing technologies. Its a league of its own. It serves its own purpose and fits a space which was unrealized till now, which is why its sort of difficult for us to put it in a box and slap a 'category' on it. But its a lot of things that we have not seen yet. Its big. Its sexy. Its visual. Its touchy feely. Its beautiful. Its clear. Its reading friendly. Its social networking friendly. Its possibly the BEST web browsing device and its something that you dont want to miss if you are a wordsmith or a movie buzz. Films look absolutely amazing on this babe.

Movie Worth The Download - 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'

Movies originally shot in one language and dubbed in another, look sound and feel gay. Or so I thought till now. Being a voice over artiste and a theater person, and someone who has studied film, not just appreciation but also production in all its aspects, its very important for me that the characters don't feel like they are reading out whats supposed to be said out in voices other than their own. But my opinions changed after this movie. Why? Read on and you'll know why.

This movie is a murder mystery. It seems painfully detailed, but eventually everything pieces together like an intelligently brought together jigsaw puzzle. I'm not a big fan of movies with blood gore and death. This one deals with a mass murder. (For those of you who read my previous movie review of The Lovely Bones are right now wondering whats up with my obsession with murder mysteries about serial killers and ppl who have lost all social equilibrium. Believe me this is just pure coincidence.)

The story, acting, direction along with the almost life like characters, along with some very good cinematography, more than make up for its 'dubbed feel'. The way the dialogues are enunciated made me wonder if the film was an adaptation of a bestseller. Post a google search my hunches came true. Never the less, beautifully written, decently translated and excellently spoken by the respective Voices used. I'm going to contradict myself here and say that the dubbing was actually a treat to the ears, compared to the often unclear and garbled dialogues delivered by a lot of the best actors from the west, no matter how real.

There is also this feel of realism that runs through the length of the movie, which to me, as to a lot of reality loving people, added a touch of niceness to the movie viewing experience. Id like to quote a few instances from the film to elucidate what i mean by *REAL*:

* Like the supposed lesbian EMO hacker, who on one hand, parades around all dressed in black with piercings, displaying very little emotion, inwardly walled, but depicts total child-like-ness when she's around the father-figure-like-Journalist who she one night has mindless sex with for no apparent reason. (People will often rebel and run from what they claim to disapprove of, only to one day embrace it in a gush of raw sex. In this case perhaps authority in the form of a male role model.)

* The new State appointed rapist guardian of the EMO hacker, who while at one hand being a man of law, bends, breaks it and gets timely and just reward for it too. (The things which we uphold are the very things we will abuse, because love, is hate standing upside down.)

* The Industrialist who hires the Journalist, and how he portrays his family to be a bunch of money hungry scavengers. (Wealth, Family and Power are a bad bad combination, amongst most people at the top.)

*The murder's wife and how warm, friendly and almost inviting she is towards the journalist at one point in the film when he visits her home for dinner, almost coming onto him later while they are walking in each others company, by asking him to join her for a last glass of wine, with that twinkle in her eye. (Men who are achievers, always hold a special place in the heart of women who knew they had the spark, but did nothing with their latent talent. Beautiful married women with average looking husbands, are the most desperate of the lot for attention and action from the opposite sex. All morals are as of now dead.)

So if you have time on your hands to check out a movie that will bend your mind in an all encompassing mystery, total detective style, if you love family histories, old photos and share a hatred for psychotic killers who deserve to burn in hell - please watch 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'.

I promise, you will totally love it.

Movie Worth The Download - The Lovely Bones

There are happy movies and then there are the other type. The type that take your trip into a negative zone and keep it there for a few hours before you realize the movie is over. Its difficult to place this movie into one of those two heads because of the sheer nature and treatment of the film.

Now where do we start. For one the film is beautifully written. Without too much dramatic jugglery of words the script conveys precisely what needs to be said by the beautifully crafted characters. The film's about a girl falling victim to the bad timing of a dark mind. But thankfully thats not what the entire movie is about. Its about a lot of positive and happy things, that co-exist with the rest of the dirt that comprises all our of lives.

The film's cinematography deserves a special mention. The film almost borders on a hallucination trip at times and makes you wonder if you should have rather seen it in 3D. It almost is so stunningly beautiful at times that it tends to distract the viewer from the plot that the visuals should have accentuated.

From the callous and fun loving flavor of the girls grand mother to the sinister evil of the 'dark mind'. From the loving warmth that families share to the eventual fear of leaving it all behind. From our magical perceptions of life after death to the horrid reality of living with a family member gone missing - this film somehow manages to capture it all, precisely and beautifully.

Being a long time and an extensive user of almost all the social networks i have come to a conclusion that no two social networks are alike or comparable. Attaching your tweets to your facebook will never work. Trying to mix and mingle ANY two social networks is a BAD idea which will backfire. Why? Read on.

Facebook has always had its own charm - its wall, its news feed, comments, interactions, NOTIFICATIONS, its layout, the photo albums along with its faulty chat and of course its 10,000 useless applications which do nothing but spam. For a lot of us, FB messages almost replaced our Emails! Facebook has been good to a lot o f us, and thats why, even if we choose to give into Twitter, we can never really let go of FB. Lets face it. We love Facebook. Each and every one of us. :-)

An interesting observation though about a lot of people who migrated from Orkut to FB wpuld be that a lot of them have this 'arrogant coldness' about them thats not seen in people still using and active on Orkut. More people using FB have airs about them and almost consciously will choose to add people to their lists, but almost never initiate interactions with them. Strange!

Twitter on the other hand is more of a venting machine for people who need to air their thoughts and feelings out as they happen on the go - its also a status thing for ppl to show off how many folks follow them. Twitter has also given birth to a lot of Internet noise, which we were previously unaware of. Most people who use it don't realize that what they Tweet is also being READ. Quality is lost and almost every other tweet you see will be something that DOESNT interest you personally.

While Orkut has its own very dedicated bunch of loyal followers. People on Orkut are unusually warm, friendly, interactive, expressive and very very helpful and down to earth. Orkut is the place for a lot of old school hard core tech loving wizards who modulate groups and help anyone seeking advice and guidance. Something unheard of on FB.

Buzz fell flat on its face. Buzz to me is a sign that ANYTHING new coming now in the world of Social Networking is something i will NEVER bother with. Buzz has also taught me that its not important to restart all your social interactions, but give more meaning and shape to the social platforms you are already currently existing on. So much change and adaptability is something I am NOT WILLING to give to a new social platform no way. I dont care how good it is and how its better than this and that. Simple fact is that Im not used to it and I dont want to take the effort to get used to something new.

Its not always needed to throw old things away.
Sometimes all you need to do is, give the things you have, a good second look.

1. EMOs: Eye shadow, strage clothes, they try to visually emote darkness but end up looking like circus rejects. Tacky color usage in profile and Display Picture gives them away. They usually wont have much to say, so if you follow them or don't, doesn't really make a difference!

2. Internet Marketing Personnel: These people constantly force you to click links, or check out schemes or contests or keep promoting something or the other, till a point that you end up getting really irritated with their tweets and unfollow them. Look out for ANY profile with marketing written in the description or even profiles with pictures of naked chicks!

3. Bands: Until and unless you are a groupie who hasn't really found his or her calling in life and are still in that phase where your obsession with a particular band overrides your sensibilities, you might wanna avoid following bands on Twitter. It gets a lill boring to constantly read them kissing asses of the who's who of their respective circuits and talking about how good this and that gig was. Constantly getting flashed by their gig schedule is super gay too. At best one gig of theirs is all u'd see, not their entire schedule!

4. Celebrities: I don't like to follow people in the lime light. Because of the simple fact that everything they say is scrutinized and pondered upon so much that each word they tweet HAS TO be laced with pretenses, masks and lies. Honesty is a big thing for me. I cant be reading some dubious crap coming from someone making way too much money. Plus at one level these people are ONLY marketing their work, their products and their mainstream-ness, which is what the rest of the main stream media is doing as well. So why would you want that to seep into your Twitter timeline and make life shitty there too. Plus its AMAZING the amount of mutual ass licking that happens among these ppl. I cant take it. If u can pls go right ahead and follow these ppl.

5. Wack Talkers:"I just woke up and will be getting dressed" "The coffee at this barista in vasant vihar is really lame" "ill be getting ready in a while to go to work" "another lame office day at office - life is so boring" "why do crows birds and pigeons always poop over my car only" ... You get the idea. Twitter says a Tweet is the answer to the question "what are you doing right now" - but that doesnt mean you ACTUALLY answer that in all your tweets!! Dont think about yourself when you tweet. Try to think whats going on in the heads of the people who are reading what you are tweeting - you DO need to give a fuck about your followers. Following Wack Talkers is a RISK in itself, which you can take if that kinda thing rubs u the right way.

6. Absentees - People who start a Twiter account coz they hear so much about this celeb Tweeting and that celeb Tweeting so they too wanted to check it out, but never got down to really discovering what the tool is all about and how it can be incorporated in their lives, so they make profiles and then disappear back to their GTalk Messengers or FB profiles. The last update from these people came 6 months back and probably was something like "Checking out what this Twitter thing is all about".

Lot of people asking the same question - WHAT IS BUZZ - So here go.

Just like back in the day when the internet was a cluttered space full of all kinds of garbage that used to turn up in searches and there was just no way of so to speak finding the needle in the hay stack...google stepped in and almost next to destroyed yahoo's technically inferior dominance with algorithmic searches that required lesser labour and churned out better results.

Apparently one major problem being faced by people using social networking now a days is the sheer quantity of "too much information" vs the stuff that might genuinely interest you. With Google Buzz, Google plans to do what they are best at, sifting through the clutter to get us the end users only the best content that wud make most sense to us. Its intelligent system over time also "learns" what matters most to us and is claimed to almost "continuously evolve'!!

But of course time will only tell how many ppl are willing to start using it and give up other social websites like twitter, orkut and facebook...

A festival that has been known to bring some of the best and greatest international rock and metal acts to India over a very long period of time, suddenly decides to bring "Backstreet Boys" this time. Possibly the most lethal and dangerous decision to be taken considering how loyal and dedicated most metal and rock fanatics are in India and elsewhere in the world.

One way to be looking at it could be that hey. Its a corporate and they will do whatever it takes to maximize profits. Its their show and they will call it whatever the hell they want to call it. If you don't like it don't go to see it. Its their investment and thus their call to decide who headlines and who doesn't. But then how correct is that. Considering that none of these shows would be successful if it wasn't for the loyal rock loving janta that throngs these places in thousands just to get a glimpse of their favorite musicians and spend a couple of hours in an unsafe, unprotected, usually under equipped and over crowded cramped space trying to enjoy the "so called" concert.

Don't these so called corporates owe any moral and social responsibility to the fans because of whom them make so much money? Plus no one really has the right to call an event a "Rock" event and then blasphemously have the courage to call the most historically hated bunch of media hyped beautiful boys to perform music that's the geometric opposite of the genre that's being carried by the title of the damn event!!?!

This led to their website being hacked by some metal crazy fan and this silly video being made by some rock fan. I just hope these event ppl were a lill more sensitive to fans and cared a lill' more than they currently do. Enjoy The Video. :)

There is something about short films thats very very exciting. Firstly I dont like sitting down and watching something for more than a very limited period of time. I lose interest. Patience. And most of all almost no film has the ability to really do a good job of entertaining my fancy beyond a few interesting scenes, so my resolve for the new year is to not just watch as many cool and crazy short films as i can, but also hopefully make a few of my own, god willing.

So in the hope that you guys too see in these short films what i see, im going to start hunting down the ones that really really excite me, and post them here on my good old blog, with a hope that these independent film makers too get the exposure they rightfully deserve.

Its strange how so much premium is put into the people in our lives. The ones we inevitably end up expecting so much from are the same ones who let us down. With love comes hate and then love and then hate. The circle never ends and still we don't know why we hate and love this circular motion for everything that it is.

Relationships per se, not just love. Friendships. How people change form and shape over a passing phase and how irrespective of what age we are, there never really comes a time when you can honestly say you know it all. Cause there is still so much left that you don't know and should, but no one tells you, besides raw first hand experiences. Better days in store for us all.

Wake Up Sid. Don't watch too much Bollywood. Never have as a matter of fact, until and unless it was taking a lame chick out to something she was comfortable watching. Bollywood has seriously never really been my scene. Not that I think I'm too cool for it, but its just that the time and realities depicted in popular Bollywood cinema just never appealed to my sensibilities and rarely spoke of issues I could relate to. But then comes something I watch and get kicked over in the butt with a surprise.

Wake Up Sid is a real tale about real people in the very real city of Mumbai. Its about the very real dream we all cherish of having our own place in a new city of dreams far far away from the prying eyes of our familiar family friends and relatives. A new beginning. A new ray of hope and a new future. Its about how we city kids from reasonably secure backgrounds take everything for granted and don't give a crap till we really are faced with situations where we are forced to bend and break our spoilt brat ways to fit into a world and society that are far from the safe secure taken care of background we all are so used to and take for granted. Its about a person's real struggle with getting out of a comfort zone and getting into the real world where everything is something we need to make amends with and adjust to. The story also subtlety but precisely talks about how people come and go from our lives and how true friendship involves letting ppl go when that's the only thing they want to do.

Ranbir Kapoor has tried really hard to act well in this film and besides a few scenes, he hardly manages to emote anything substantial. Konkona Sen Sharma comes across as a tease throughout the movie. One of those typical bitches who keep the dude hanging for action till he finally decides to pull his hair out in frustration, but in the mean time will use him for every last penny he is worth, coz he is "such a sweet friend". The film also aspires to portray realistic college life, which in Bollywood means excessive use of colour, inappropriate flamboyance and objects which try to dipict popular youth culture like an Apple Mac Book Pro, Star Treck T Shirts, mentions of popular American TV show "The Simpsons" so on and so forth, which add to the cheesy and irritating elements of the film.

But everything said and done, Id still take it to be one of the more meaningful movies Ive seen in a while. And what's rare about this movie, besides the fact that it touched me, was the fact that its one of the few Bollywood movies who's title, seems appropriate and to the point. Other weird things about it were the strange appearance of Rahul Khanna, Akshaye Khanna's lesser talked about brother who if you guys remember was one of the first few VJs hired by MTV when they started off in India a while back. Another totally unnecessary and weird appearance of the supposed 'item number' Kashmira Shah who every hour or so would make an appearance showing way too much unattractive cleavage and leg skin.

What is #FollowFriday on Twitter?

This article should be able to tell you about what the hell is #FollowFriday on Twitter and why you might consider using it on the all new hottest and most rapidly growing new social netowrking tool called Twitter.

Firstly, Twitter helps you send instant messages or 'tweets' to everyone following you in less than 140 charecters. These can be messages, links, random thoughts, questions and pretty much anything off your head, as long as its of interest to the group of nice folks that choose to 'follow' you.

If you really want to make the most of your Twitter experience, merely making and account and getting people added through your gmail friendlist is not going to be enough, really! There are loads of programs, sites, and concepts that have come up thanks to Twitter that you can make full and optimum use of in order to really have fun with the lill' amazing blue bird, as so many of us like to imagine it!

#FollowFriday is one such craze that has taken Twitter by storm. Its basically a means for you to promote and push, friends and followers to the millions of Twitter folk out there in Twitter land. If they like who you are promoting, they will like you and thus you dont just end up helping people find new folks to follow on Twitter that might match their taste and style, but in a way also end up promoting your OWN self by showing your 'good taste' of people.

The # sign just before doesnt indicate ppl doping or using hash. It means that the word/phrase followed by the # sign is a 'tag'. The sign helps other interested in the same tag / topic to search for it and know what other people talking about the same thing have to say and perhaps even interact with those people, and share a conversation about a common interest.

For #FollowFriday, the hash tag creates the 'tag' for the #FollowFriday concept and anyone whos checks out sites like hashtags.org or follows twitter.com/hashtags can keep up with various tags including the #FollowFriday tag.

So how do you take part in this whole #FollowFriday online orgie that happens each friday, worldwide? Each friday, think and make a list of all those folks who you like, folks who have been good to you, people you dont dislike too much, folks who's tweets are nice and interesting to read etc. add a @ sign just before their usernames - like @ashishddavidd (that wud be me), and add a #FollowFriday at the beginning or the end of the list and post in like you normally post your tweets. People you have mentioned along with everyone following the #FollowFriday tag will be able to see the usernames you are promoting.

The Twitter Tag Project is a tool that makes all this jazz much simpler, by scanning your last 200 tweets and seeing who are the most frequented folks you interact with and makes that disgusting job of putting those @ marks easier! :)

Record Producers in the Indian Scenario.

Since John Lekki did his thang with the British Council / Counter Culture conceptualized 'SoundPad', the minds of a lot of Indian Underground musicians, sound engineers and enthusiasts has been revolving around the idea and the concept of a "RECORD PRODUCER". Most of us confuse it with the concept of Film Producers or Sound Engineers, whereas that’s not really what the role of a Record Producer really is.

What is it then?? WHAT THE HELL IS A FCKKING 'RECORD PRODUCER'!!!!!!!!! Wikipedia describes a Record Producer as "one who has many roles, among them controlling the recording sessions, coaching and guiding the musicians, organizing and scheduling production budget and resources, and supervising the recording, mixing and mastering processes."

Shanthanu, Chief Sound Engineer 'Yash Raj Studios' on what is a Record Producer:

Quote "Record Producers are an alien concept in India because not too many people understand what the role of a music producer actually is. Trying to put it in a nutshell, Id say the role of a music producer is actually not to change the song, making the song more concise and considering today’s commercial world, more 'radio friendly' they’d try to avoid having it too stretched out, they will also sit down and judge weather musical parts, instruments and vocals are clashing with each other and will also enhance the sound of a band, for example maybe a guitar player likes a particular sound, but the producer might feel that that particular sound that the guitar player is used to using, might not fit in with the actual song, so he will help the guitar player change the sound without changing the tone too much, so it fits in better with the track in a way, that when they are mixing the track, it actually becomes relevant without things popping out.

The misconception over here in India is that most people would assume a Producer to be someone who funds a particular project. But outside of India that’s definitely not the idea. Sure you have producers who will fund films and stuff like that but Music / Record Producers are very very important for getting the Sound of a particular band or artiste, just right. So basically the role of a Record Producer is pretty much like a 'Master Chef'! He gets all these great ingredients, makes a delicious dish and decorates it and presents it in a fashion that will be acceptable to the consumer, who in this case would be the listeners or the buying public" UnQuote

And here I was thinking to myself could this possibly be the reason why there is so much quantity and so little quality among Indian Underground Music? Is it only because the definition of a Record Producer has been missing from our dictionaries for all these years and that the only way we know how to make songs is club 5 people together, throw them in a studio and record their song with the help of a sound engineer?

I was checking out VH1 last night and I chance upon this interview of Bono and The Edge where they are talking about their albums and the success they had over the years. Bono "we would have been totally directionless in our sound and quality of songs, if we hadn’t had the fortune of working with the producers we landed up working with." Post which he remarks on how the top 50 songs in any chart are usually also associated with highly reputed and skilled producers.

And then I land up having a chat with Zorran Mendonsa, who to me will always be the dude who sold me MP3 CDs back in the day, couriered them to me and charged me 200 bucks per CD from Bombay all the way to Delhi, when there was no broadband and he was one of the only people i knew who had access to videos and great audio!!! To the world he is Warren Mendonsa's lill brother and belongs to the gene pool of the great Loy Mendonsa. Zorran, went abroad and did his sound engineering and has returned and bagged the plumb deal of recording and mixing Them Clones's first studio release in the 9 years they have been around - 'Love Hate Heroes'.

Zorran Mendonsa on Record Producers:

Zorran M: "some bands need one, some bands don’t"

CBA: "what’s the difference between those bands."

Zorran M: "the need of direction."

CBA: "so what you’re basically saying is, bands cud be categorized based on their blissful ignorance / brimming overconfidence or their ability to realize that they could achieve much more with the services of a record producer? if not elaborate. coz ur the only authority right now that i can think of who can shed some clarity here."

Zorran M: "Some bands can write their own songs fine. a lot of my favorite records didn’t include a producer apart from the musicians in the band. Some bands need direction when they’re not in touch with their expression and also what they want to achieve. if you’re talking about strictly sonically then that’s a different issue.. but then that is perhaps easier to attain than the knowledge of writing a good song."

CBA: "Given a choice, which are the bands past / present...Indian and finrangee...that you would like to produce... and why. do you think the Indian scene really requires more producers and if so how would that really help? what direction would u give to people who want to produce, have an ear for music and want to get into producing records."

Zorran M: "Well i actually wouldn’t like to produce any band.. Ideally id just like to record and mix the following: Scribe, Cognac, Indigo Children, Shefali Alvarez and perhaps a more rocky Pentagram album if they wanted one. Also id love to work on some great mellow stuff but i haven’t heard any from India yet.

Yup the Indian scene could sure use a producers. Direction is lacking because honesty is lacking. Most people in India make music because its something they’ll do till they got a mortgage and a 9 to 5. Its rare to see an Indian act with Honesty and Expression in their music.

As for direction to future producers. I’m not really the best person to ask because i hardly produce. I’m more of an engineer/mixer. If you want to get into producing records id say Analyze the fuck out of your favorite records and what makes them your favorite. Look for vibes in music and get a feel for how to get those vibes out of the artist in front of you."

And that clarified it for me. Indian Bands need Record Producers. Till we don’t trust the ears of people with expertise and till we don’t let go of our obsession with this overwhelming need to be "Musician's Musicians" (one who plays live and records to out do other musicians, read: focuses on competing rather than composing) and we don’t accept that its time we introduced more subtle angles of professional expertise at the core of our Underground Music production processes, we will still be depending on people coming in from the west to take notice of the gems we've have had to ourselves for years. I wonder how different is that from back in the days when folks invaded us. :)

I’m sitting here all alone and don’t really know what it is that I want to achieve with these fingers of mine that are tapping incessantly on the keyboard. The light that’s seeping into my rooms thru the tie and dye curtains of my big window room seem to light up the angular keys on my laptop. I have loved people and lost them to the wind. People have walked into these four walls of my heart and have left smiling some crying. Now as I sit alone with nothing much on my mind & I’m reminded of the moments I shared with them. Each face. Each smile. Each moment. Each touch. What I’ve learn. Everything I’ve known comes down to a very big Zero. Not that I haven’t gathered the pearls of precious wisdom time bothered to drop in my collared shirt pocket, but its just the pace of live we all are living, that just makes everything obsolete, every fortnight. For which, I’m in a way glad. For all the unbecoming that intelligent-seeming people talk of would not have to be incorporated in my demeanor.

My understanding of time is the here and now - i dont bother much with the future or the past coz both to me are right now meaningless - and thats the way it worketh for me. if i can manage to make sense of this moment - in a microcozmic kinda way ive done by bit for being the essential brick that builds up the architectual structure that eventually might or might not make any difference.

As time passes by smaller things add up to other smaller things and join in to make slightly bigger things that make a little more sense that the smaller things did when they were pieced apart. Which is sort of like people coming together. They cant make any sense of anything when they are alone and on their own. But togetherness, communion and harmony makes it all a lill bit more meaningful.

Urban Independent Music - Questions Answered.

I hope all's well on your end.

My friend and I are working on this project on urban independent music in India. Right now we're on the research phase of the project... basically getting to know the beast before we take it on. I thought you would be the ideal person to ask.
Here are a few questions, it would be great if you could write a few lines to each one of them and send them back in a couple of days.

Q1) How does an artist (or music industry person) like you define your ideal/average music fan in India?

Ashish Ddavidd: "From my experience in being in private radio industry, of hosting internet radio shows and being a performing artiste and studio professional, a few considerations that i have come to understand and observe in my 10 year journey through the various broadcasting mediums and platforms of art have taught me a few basics about your ideal / average music fan or listener in India."

"The strata or bracket of averages mostly is the youth ranging from your school and college kids to young people who have recently become financially independent and now have purchasing power coupled with the desire to consume and demand the various classifications and bifurcations of not just entertainment media but also other related lifestyle consumer products and services - which not just includes music, but also includes the internet, mobile services, electronics, live events, pubs, films, parties, clothes, gadgets, PDAs, laptops, mp3 players - the works. Their behaviors regarding decisions about consuming music is very much like their decisions made regarding all the other forms of entertainment that they consume and demand at the same pace and amount. "

"They are forever in search for the next best deal, the upgrade, the next version of the same thing - they are definitely open for change and associate consistency with monotony and get very easily bored and disinterested in products and services that fail to keep pace and constant track of the rate of change and constant evolution that they experience in their day to day lives. Shelf life of music has reduced and its now all about the right now and right here. If whatever the artiste is producing and churning out is in compatibility with their current states of being, it will be consumed with great demand, else its something that will fail to matter to their lives and thus will just get added on to the endless list of unsuccessful experiments gone wrong. The role of intelligent and quick marketing thus multiplies manifold."

Q2) What mode(s) of music appeals most to the urban music audience?

Ashish Ddavidd: "Conventional modes like Audio CDs, DVDs and even MP3 CDs that are being sold in chain stores are pretty much still the source of music to a large bunch of people - but most of these people are either old, ignorant, technologically impaired or just haven’t bothered to catch up with the pace of growth and change that the rest of the world has been undergoing, since the last odd decade. An increasing bracket of people access their music on the internet and listen to it on their phones, their respective mobile audio devices like the various portable mp3 players available all over the markets in cheap affordable options or simply on their personal or office PCs or laptops."

"The mainstream as such continues to dominate the large piece of the pie but i believe that over a period of time with the increased number of choices and options available to people over the internet, the underground, the left of center, the not so huge sources of music will start mattering more. Its pretty evident from the ever increasing demand for local artistes and bands - people want stuff that’s closer to their hearts and their homes - the personal touch is what will matter eventually as well. Why the hell should i bother with a Britney Spears who is from another culture and is someone I will never ever get to ogle at physically in this lifetime when I can check out a local band like say level 9 for a cheap 150 bucks and then even get to meet the band members, probably get an autographed CD handed to me and even add the cute lead singer to my friend list on Orkut or Facebook! That's far more meaningful and REAL for the average music consumer than chasing the elusive western music culture. Screw all that - we have a 'counter culture' happening right here right now - so you are either plugged into it - or you are still somewhere else."

Q3) What is the scope of live independent music concerts in India?

Ashish Ddavidd: "Huge. Localization of music is something that’s happening everywhere. People in Delhi love bands from Delhi. Folks down in Chennai love Chennai bands. Moreover folks in Delhi are always fascinated with bands that come down from Mumbai. And Mumbaikars are always excited about musicians from Delhi who come down there to perform from time to time. So there is this huge demand for local-local bands and it in an unexplained sort of way fuels demand for bands from other regions as well. And thanks to the internet, everyone knows about every other band that’s making waves in their respective geographical domains. He just wants a good time - and if it’s thanks to music that’s independent and local - why the hell not!! in the day and age of countless choices forced upon us by conventional modes of entertainment - the mainstream has become a sort of bully and the underground continues to not care a damn - and its not just a phase that most of us are experiencing - its a lifestyle choice we all made in full consciousness - years of being told what to do has just given birth to a mindset that doesn’t care for opinions other than the ones made INDEPENDENLY - music being just one of those aspects of the youth's choices that are influenced by such a mindset."

Q4) How does mass media perceive the whole independent music scene in India?

Ashish Ddavidd: "It doesn’t give a shit. :) Very honestly. It just doesn’t really care. Mass denotes numbers. Commercialization. Money. But right now change is pregnant in the state of how things have been. Mass media looks at the independent scene like a mother looks at a lill child who's struggling to walk and needs mom's constant help to manage himself. But then that’s the case - parents never realize when the damn kid grows up and outdoes the generation that preceded him."

"That’s the kind of tangent i think that the underground shares with the mainstream - in loads of aspects we are far more evolved than the mainstream but then we still have a long way to go and have a million lessons still to learn from the conventional old school mass media, that we might not readily admit, but in time will have to come to a truce with."

Q5) What are some of the existing initiatives (that you know of) that serve to support the scene?

Ashish Ddavidd: "Myspace.Com is i think one of the biggest and most powerful tool that any independent music producer from say a school band to even upcoming professional and semi professional armature artistes can use to broadcast and put out their music on the net. Its got musicians and artistes from all over the globe together and has given our society a home to live in, virtually. Social networking sites supporting music and video too have given birth to more and more specialized groups and communities of people holding common interests in music."

"Venues like pubs and night clubs opening doors to live musicians once twice thrice a week, having special nights where live music is not just respected but how it affects these venues monetarily is also a huge phenomenon that has pushed things to work in the favor of musicians and independent music in general. And of course music festivals that have become a regular feature all over the country too are fueling the fire. Rock is almost the new pop now."

Q6) To what extent is the independent music scene being dominated/subdued by the mainstream music scene? In what ways is it being dominated?

Ashish Ddavidd: "That’s a lame question. Read - INDEPENDENT music - we don’t depend on anyone. Peace." :)

One often wonders what the point of having a blog is. One often wonders what is the point of a having a Podcast. One often wonders, what is the whole point of broadcasting and consuming so much information.

Weather there is way too much information being doled out.
Weather its necessary or not.
How does it affect the quality of our lives?
Where does it take us and how does it prove to be of any help to anyone.

In a day and age where pretty much everything is a Google search away.
Of all the YouTube Video-Blogging that's happening.

Where does this mass broadcasting take us and is there ANY light WHATSOEVER at the end of this information overloaded tunnel that we seem to be passing thru in the days of our lives?

There is a light.
Or at least id like to believe that there is.

We have a medium to connect with folks who believe and think just like we do.
To be able to know what others are going through at the same time.
To be able to see, know, learn, understand and decipher
how life is shaping up with someone else who might be sitting at another corner of the world right now and probably facing same situations at work, or home or in relationships - just like YOU are.

To be able to broadcast like we have never been able to for so long.

This is a time conducive to the PPL controlling content and having the ability to be able to make the all important choice of WHAT they choose to consume WHAT they trust, and NOT be limited to countable options of knowledge and information.

This is a very exciting time...and it just gets better.

OK So for those of you who dont dig south park for whatever reasons - i couldnt be bothered less. But for those of you who ARE into South Park, you know WHY we love South Park the way we love South Park. South park represents so many things to us all. And just take my word for it, if you have not been seeing it, YOU REALLY SHOULD.

I downloaded the latest season 12 and there was this one episode which was ONLY about how life falls apart when Stan's house doesnt have the internet anymore. Isnt it so amazing how the internet has just gotten into our lives. Like I have no clue where it came from and how it became as big as it did and when the hell did all this happen, but ya...damn...its power to just connect each and every single one of us with a single thread is just too fascinating.

I think its a matter of time before our dependency on the TV, the Newspaper, Magazines, Books, DVDs, CDs...vanishes. The day starts with you rubbing ur eyes and checking your cell phone for any messages that might have trickled in at early hours, then you check ur missed calls, then its gmail, then its facebook, then its orkut, if ur a musician, then its probably myspace, if ur a blogger, then you wud follow up on blogs ur following, if ur on forums then of course them as well, then you click all 4 messengers right on - Gtalk, Yahoo, MSN & Skype, then if ur a downloader like most of us are - you check the status of all your downloads to see how much of what all is now onto ur hard disk, then if ur a regular on a particular torrent site, then youd also wanna check what are the latest free goodies available on them torrents and make sure you en-que everything thats of your interest into ur download list immediately.

Our increasing dependency on the internet and on technology is growing at an alarming rate. But who cares. Its all good. No one is complaining. The average working 20 something year old in an urban city in India, spends roughly 4 hours in front of a computer connected to the internet as opposed to 1/4th the time that he might be willing to spare for the idiot box. I doubt if people have time to sit and watch tv programmes. Most ppl I know want entertainment on demand - they wanna see WAT they wanna see WEN they wanna see it. The same is with Radio. No one now wants to wait for a show and listen to it. They want to hear things when they feel like it and they wanna have a say in the content as well!

I guess the times they ARE a-changing.

Sound of the Indian Underground Podcast

Yes people this is THE podcast. Seems to have given me convergence...as one of my friends very aptly mentioned. What the hell is convergence? Wel its when a man brings together everything he knows and can go together to create something that makes a lot of sense to a whole lot of people.

A bit about the Podcast...its targeted at urban Indian youth across the globe...promotes a lot of free speech and plays underground Indian music. Its pretty crazy...its been less than a month and its already gotten some 10,000 listens... the facebook and orkut communities too are pretty buzzing...eventually i might have to get a website made for the podcast but as of now i think i want to let it grow in its current state...and just see where and what it leads too...

people from all over have been showing great support...band managers...musicians...rock lovers ... students...college kids...housewives... journalists...NRI type ppls...all seem to be pretty buzzed about it... RSJ has already sent me their entire collection of music...so has Only Much Louder and Demonstealer Records...DADA music contacted me... and loads of people are talking to me...RadioVerve too showed interest in wanting to associate...RAVE magazine has shown interest in collaborating as well...so one cud say that the response has been pretty mad ass...but im sort of holding back from any associations for the time being...

want to let this grow and take whatever shape it does in the due course of time...and we shall take it from there...

I feel like a changed man. Yesterday I flipped out and came across many solutions to problems i could not se beyond. And now it all makes sense. What have I discovered. For one that nothing really needs to be feared. When one realizes what he's capable of and how blessed he is one sees no reason to be bothered by anything or anyone.

There is a rythm of life that has its own sweet will and way. It takes you in and out of just about every difficulty and problem you might come across. The one thing one needs to do is to cling on to one's dream and never let go of your perspective because thats probably the only real thing you own.

& be closest to the person you are closest to. You dont need to compromise on your life's mission to create a heaven for yourself on this earth.

There is no reason to be worried. Everything is going just the way its supposed to. There will always be people around you who will be jealous of you and will feel uneasines and unhappiness about your achievements and there will always be people who will be good for you and will do everything they can to make it a point and find ways to communicate and transmit their positivity to you. There will always be the good the bad and the ugly. You just need to pick and choose who you give a fuck about.

I got my hands on some flicks and ill be checking them out and reviewing each and every one of them. I also saw Jodha Akbhbar the other day by flook with Abhishek aka chu chu champoin and this guy who lives to the right of abhishek. He has a funny name...Shahrukh Mistry! We intended on going to see Mithya but landed up seeing Jodha...only because chu chu mixed am and pm in the news paper listings. A 4 hour movie about a history story...lol...but it turned out quiet well. Im not in the mood the review this at all right now so ill just say this...go see it if you have time to kill, a person you really like spending time with... or are into Aishwaria Rai...coz shes looking nice in it and gets to finally kill people...which im somehow sure...must have been her dream for a number of years!!! lol...

Its getting warmer and warmer...get to appreciate the air conditioner in my office more and more. The station starts off soon...loads will be happening. Lets see. Cant wait.

Of Bitching Colleagues and Forming Bands

dude...whats up with jealous women who bitch...i cot 2 colleagues in my office the other day...talking their heads off about how uncool they think i am...about how i have been been showing off about interviewing aishwariya rai...about how i was so high headed about being considered as the national station voice for my radio station...about how they dont like me in the office...and these are ppl i have always been around for...lent money to...heard shit im not sure i love my boy friend stories from...ppl who have next to no experience of an industry im so proud to be a part of...what the fuck is up!!!

lol...well i cudnt care a rats ass...as one of them is married to a guy she thinks is perfect marriage material...and the other's name rhymes with anal so WHO GIVES A FUCK!!!

plus i think its kinda flattering to be bitched about...if i wasnt on their minds i wudnt be on their tongue and inside their mouth...jeez...that doesnt sound very nice!! lol

whatever...im all excited about my band...my neighbor who till now was a metal loving freak has been playing very very good music of late...i think most ppl who love listening to metal should be content and satisfied about that and not take their love for metal into getting confused about having abilities to execute it as a musician...the fact remains that very very very very few metal musicians do a good job of it...at least locally as far as im concerned thats what the general observation has been...unless of course ur the kind who cant tell between good metal and noize in tempo...

was trying to play the bass and sing...but now shashank...aka chimpoo has taken over the duties of a bas player... so that leaves me with the vocal responsibilities...which is something i obviously love...but i dont really know what the trip is right now...these guys seem enthu right now...but its clear that for any band to really make a difference ...consistency and hard work are needed along with the basic talent. time will tell whatever happens to the band...but as of now its a lot of fun...

South Park - Adult Toons Rock Monkey Balls.

I get pretty amazed each time I come across ppl who _still_ haven't heard of South Park. For the uninformed ignorants reading this, South Park is _the_ most brilliantly written and cleverly conceptualized animated series, ever. What sets this one apart is that its probably the most abusive and controversial one ever to gain the kind of acceptance and popularity that it has managed to. Ppl seriously love this shit!

This 'Comedy Central' series revolves around the everyday life of four kids who live in the 'South Park' town of Colorado, America. Behind the sweet seeming paper cut characters and simple use of effective and often abusive language, lye's some very cutting edge satirical humor which often borders on being offensive (to those who have no sense of humor, that is).

These guys manage to effectively make fun of everything under the sun from religious fanaticism and terrorism to Michael Jackson's fake nose.

The coolest part?? (splly for the technologically challenged ladies reading this) is that all the episodes are free to watch and available just a click away at http://www.allsp.com!

South Park. Its not what happens to your crotch when you dont shave down south for too long...but watching it might be an equally hair-raising! A highly recommended must watch!

I wrote a lot of these songs when I was a boy of 19 in the year that was 1999. These songs contain a lot of my anger, love, apprehension, wisdom and witt, combined with of course whatever little raw and unpolished talent that was as much a constant then as it is now! The Best of Del Amitri - 'Hatful of Rain'

I heard this album a really really long time back at a very wrong phase of my life. Nope. I don't think any phase of a man's life can ever be termed as wrong. But it was definitely a wrong time for me to have heard this collection of some of the saddest, yet most beautifully written songs to come out of Scotland.

The plain painful truth of life's saddest moments has been sung brilliantly by front man songwriter bass player and guitarist 'Justin Currie', who's also the longest running constant in the band's lifespan which surprisingly spans a solid two and a half decades.

This record carries some of the band's best work down the years. With each sung sentence "Nothing Ever Happens" paints a picture of the mundane everyday city life. "Just like a Man" is a sarcastic self slapper trip induced song which sees a man mocking his own foolish pride. The dagger of pain draws more blood in "Spit in the Rain" where more frequented instances of broken down hopeless relationships are dragged out of the grave where you thought they belonged. "When You Were Young" managed to put me on an almost similar nostalgia trip as each episode of 'The Wonder Years' used to. The futility of foolish confused love starved youth living blank lives from day to day searching for questions to be answered, rolls off "Stone Cold Sober".

This album changed my perspective to a considerable degree. In its own strange way it made me get over this really hot babe who dumped me and totally broke my then foolish heart. If you have a younger cousin brother or a kid who might need some of his own growing up to do, this just might make for a perfect Christmas gift.

Aaja Nachle - Review

I went to see this movie because my date, Riya wished to check out Kunal Kapur. Whats it with this guy, all the chicks seem to be digging their teeth into him as if he were a freshly fallen apple from a tree. Well anyway, as anyone would, i too thought that the movie would most probably be a dance extravaganza - judging by the name, with a role custom tailored for now ageing yet extremely hot Madhuri Dixit, to ensure that her come back from the dark depths of oblivion would be a prominent, if not larger than life one.

The story of 'Aaja Nachle' turned out to be that of an NRI single mom from New York played by who else but the hotter than an oven Madhuri, shown to be a professional dancer visiting her hometown of Shamli. In a fit of rage she decides to select and train the cast of 'laila majnu - a dance theatrical' out of a bunch of apprehensive small towners to prevent her favourite childhood haunt, make out place (I'm guessing) and dance theater 'Ajanta' from being demolished and made a mall out of.

Everything else was ok but what seemed to be the pleasant surprise in the movie were the brilliant performances by the character actors who these days seem to steal the show from all the so called super stars! Ranvir Shorey plays Madhuri’s ex-fiancee and does a frigging good job of it. I remember how this guy used to clown around in his VJ days and what a long way he has come from being the comical jerk that he always played. Raghuveer Yadav's and Irfan Khan's roles added a touch of believability to the seemingly stupid storyline which i cant find to be remotely believable. Konkana Sen Sharma killed me with performance which I think was probably even better than Hot Mama Dixit's. This one takes the cake - Akshay Khanna played the role of a just and fair next generation member of parliament...little wonder then, why I think this was largely a comedy.
